The Halley Quartet Winter Concerts 2013 – Supporting the Breast Cancer Network Australia

Premiering local composer Paul Halley’s highly anticipated second album which will be released at the concert.

The talented international players from The Halley Quartet will be delighting audiences this winter with original compositions by Dr Paul Halley at two south coast venues.

As promised for 2013, Dr Paul Halley will release his second album, The Halley Quartet II. The announcement of this new CD has been highly anticipated, after the worldwide success of the tracks from The Halley Quartet I. Locals will have the opportunity to purchase the album at the concerts, ahead of online availability scheduled later this year.

As well as premiering several new pieces, The Halley Quartet led by local virtuoso violinist Alexandra Leukianova, will be treating audiences to a familiar classic, Pachelbel’s Canon. Completing the quartet, internationally acclaimed musicians, Catrina Hughes, George Kowalik, and Michael Wieczorek bring skilful composer and local dentist Dr Paul Halley’s compositions from manuscript to life.

All four seasons feature in the concert’s introduction. A Spring Morning is a lyrical piece suggesting the arrival of spring and the reawakening of life. Summer Night evokes memories of a hot, relaxing night in the heart of summer, while Winter paints a more cold and moody atmosphere. Concluding the set of four seasons, Autumn Sunrise, perhaps the most tranquil piece on the programme, will be premiered.

Other favourites include The Storm, which will take your breath away with its exotic sounds, pulsing rhythms and unrelenting vigour. The Fury serves as a perfect finale to the performance with unparalleled drama and energy, requiring immense skill to perform. From start to finish this piece took 8 years to write, with long breaks between refinements, to develop music worthy of its title.

Tickets also available at the door $18 (concession $15)
